The Arthritis Alliance of Canada (AAC) is delighted to present its 5th Annual Meeting on October 26-27, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Come and join Canada's leading experts in arthritis as we:

  • learn why it is important to invest in arthritis models of care (MoC) - a look into an economic evaluation of the cost and consequence of implementing MoCs;
  • share "how to" implement evidenced based best practices, shared care models and practical clinical tools to optimize the delivery of osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis care!

A day and a half programme presents a variety of workshops, hosted by the AAC pillar committees and working groups to further advance collaboration through our partnership initiatives in the Models of Care, Research and Advocacy and Awareness; as well as the opportunity to network as a community.

Arthritis Consumer-Patient Organizations and Groups Coalition Workshop:
“Patient Experiences and Perspectives of Inflammatory Arthritis Models of Care: Gaps, Solutions and Pushing for Implementation”. (Advocacy perspective is integrated in the workshop program)
The breadth and depth of arthritis consumer-patient leadership, experience and perspective in Canada is significant and has contributed to the development, deployment and analysis of several self-reported patient surveys, both at home and internationally. AAC consumer-patient member organizations have developed information and education programming to specifically address gaps in arthritis models of care where they experience and perceive them to be. Representatives of the AAC consumer-patient member organizations and groups are seasoned advocates at government. The session is designed to:
  • Overview of existing gaps in arthritis models of care from the patient perspective
  • Raise awareness of information and education programming to support patients, specifically where models of care gaps currently exist
  • Discuss ways to grow collaboration between AAC Consumer Coalition members and other AAC members

Research Workshop/Session: Building an Economic Case for Models of Care for Patients with Inflammatory Arthritis (IA)
Current evidence on cost and consequence of Models of Care (whether IA Models of Care MoCs are a good value for money) is limited. The AAC is conducting an economic evaluation of IA Model of Care example to demonstrate cost consequences of investing in MOCs and building an economic case for MOC uptake among clinicians and decision-makers across Canada. This session is designed to:
  • Raise awareness amongst AAC members and stakeholders of the current AAC work in efforts to build an economic case study on cost consequences of implementing Models of Care for patients with Inflammatory Arthritis and encourage their feedback.
  • Obtain advice and recommendations from an expert panel on what is important to take into consideration for framing such an economic case in a compelling way for the policy makers to proceed with.

In this interactive workshop, targeted at early career rheumatologists, participants will:
  • Understand what a model of care is and why it is important to a patient;
  • Learn how to set up a practice;
  • Understand how models are implemented into practice and how a collaborative team of health care professionals can optimize the delivery of care
